For date night last friday we got to go to the MSP ski movie premier The Way I See It. Second of all it was A.W.E.S.O.M.E. But first of all, we had an operation to complete. We had to take the Smith posters to the Bobby Brown. Now lets not confuse this Bobby Brown, with the famous Bobbi Brown; the one I am more familiar with. The make-up artist. To me that would have been a more beneficial operation; maybe get some make-up tips, maybe get the makeover. Oh man that would be the best. Because we all know I could use some help in that area...or so my friends always thought. They were always willing to help and show me how to apply, but being me I never let them. So what If I have no idea how to apply eye makeup?
But then Kevin told me that this Bobby Brown won the X-games and that he is pretty hot shiz right now. So then we were both excited to maybe meet this Bobby. Well we get there to drop off the posters, and of course he wasn't there yet. At least we got free tickets, right?
We still had a while until the show began so we went and had some Cafe Rio. And for all those Cafe Rio lovers out their, Park CIty does it better. They give you more meat. Kevin really liked this Cafe Rio.
We then headed back over to the Park City Library, got us some seats and the Powder magazine they were passing out. We flipped through it and hazaah! there is Kevin. And then I realize, I don't need this Bobby Brown's autograph, I am sitting by, no, married too a pro-skier. I can get his autograph whenever I want. Maybe I had him sign my Powder magazine, maybe I didn't.
The movie began and like I said before it was A.W.E.S.O.M.E. The best ski movie I have seen thus far! (ok not true, my hubbies will always be my #1) But we just sat in awh the whole time. It made me really want to go out and "shred the knar." And thats me, scared scared me. It was pretty humorous too. I am still trying to talk Kevin into buying it, but he thinks it is toooo expensive. Yeah $27 is a lot, but I need something to pump me up for this upcoming season.

On another note, I need new moccasins. My pair is falling apart, like they so often do. I go through phases with many things. With shoes, its either flip-flops, moccasins, brown boots, or uggs. Right now I am obviously in the moccasin phase. I go through these phases until the shoe I am currently liking, wears out. And now my moccasins have holes. So bring on the next phase...lets see...Its almost UGG season! My favorite phase. But for some strange, weird reason, my husband doesn't believe I need new uggs, I think all of you need to talk some sense into him.

recipes and hadley

My cute niece Hadley is 11 months old now. She has started to walk, and has the cutest personality. She changes every time we see her.

This is my favorite way to make rice now! I didn't have any parsley on hand, so I compensated with rosemary. I really don't know how well of a trade this is, but it tasted great.

Rice Pilaf with Slivered Almonds

2 cups uncooked long grain white rice
5 cups hot water
5 chicken bouillon cubes
1 (2 oz) package slivered almonds
½ teaspoon marjoram
1 Tablespoon parsley
1 ½ squares butter or margarine
2 teaspoons salt

Dissolve bouillon cubes in water. Mix together everything except the rice and almonds. Put rice and almonds in 9X13 pan. Pour liquid mixture over rice; don’t stir. Cover dish with foil. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes; uncover and stir again. Bake uncovered, for 15 more minutes or until liquid is gone.

Rice pudding for some reason sounded good to me, so I tried it out. And it was yuuummmy! Kevin was hesitant at first, but once he tried it he went "MMMMM Ecuador!" He ate rice pudding a lot I guess on his mission, but didn't remember until he actually tasted it. Ohhh I love making Ecuadorian food unknowingly.

Rice Pudding

3/4 cup uncooked white rice
2 cups milk, divided
1/3 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
2/3 cup golden raisins (I didn't add these, but should have-that is how they made it in Ecuador)
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions

In a medium saucepan, bring 1 1/2 cups water to a boil. Add rice and stir. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
In another saucepan, combine 1 1/2 cups cooked rice, 1 1/2 cups milk, sugar and salt. Cook over medium heat until thick and creamy, 15 to 20 minutes. Stir in remaining 1/2 cup milk, beaten egg and raisins. Cook 2 minutes more, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, and stir in butter and vanilla. Serve warm

Burma

So I am writing a policy brief for my Global Health class. It is on human trafficking. I have learned a lot about it and it is fascinatingly sad. But by reading up on this, I came across an interesting thing...

So Burma is the largest country in Southeast Asia. It is a hot spot for human trafficking. It used to be one of the wealthiest countries in Southeast Asia. But today, it is one of the WORLDS most impoverished countries. Why is this and how did it change so drastically? Well in 1948 their Prime Minister at the time, U Nu, tried to drastically change their country into what we call a welfare state. A welfare state is based on the concepts of equality. Equality of opportunity, equitable distribution of wealth, and public responsibility for those unable to basically provide for themselves (welfare). The state assumes primary responsibility for the welfare of its citizens. All aspects of welfare are considered and universally applied to citizens as a "right".
After this, their largest exports fell dramatically- upwards of 96%. Then in 1962 they tried another economic scheme called the Burmese Way To Socialism. These dramatic changes and programs led Burma to be one of the most impoverished countries in the world.

I really hope this doesn't happen to us.
